Every day we are faced with decisions.

Some are small—what to prioritize, how to respond to an email, whether to say yes or no to another commitment. Others have the potential to change the course of our lives—career changes, relationships, financial decisions, ministry opportunities, retirement, or stepping into a new season.

The world tells us to trust our instincts, follow our hearts, or simply do what feels right.

God offers something better.

He offers wisdom.

What Is Godly Wisdom?

Godly wisdom is more than knowledge or intelligence. You can be highly educated and still make unwise decisions.

Godly wisdom is seeing life from God’s perspective and allowing His truth to direct your choices. It is the ability to discern what is right, not just what is easy or popular.

Wisdom asks:

• Does this honor God?
• Does this align with my values?
• Will this bring peace or unnecessary chaos?
• Is this God’s timing or simply my impatience?

When we seek God’s wisdom, we stop reacting emotionally and begin responding prayerfully.

Why We Often Miss God’s Wisdom

Many of us are so busy trying to figure everything out that we leave little room for God to speak.

We fill every quiet moment with noise.

We ask everyone else for advice before we seek God.

We confuse urgency with purpose.

I’ve learned that clarity rarely comes in the middle of chaos. It often comes in moments of stillness—during prayer, while reading Scripture, during a walk, or simply sitting quietly before God.

Wisdom requires us to slow down.

Three Ways to Grow in Godly Wisdom

1. Pray Before You Proceed

Prayer is not our last resort; it is our first response.

Before making important decisions, pause and ask God for wisdom. James 1:5 reminds us that He gives wisdom generously to those who ask.

God is not hiding His direction from us. He delights in leading His children.

2. Measure Every Decision Against Scripture

God will never lead us contrary to His Word.

His Word becomes our compass when emotions, opinions, and circumstances compete for our attention.

The more we know Scripture, the easier it becomes to recognize God’s direction.

Psalm 119:105 reminds us:

“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”

Sometimes God doesn’t illuminate the entire journey. He simply gives enough light for the next faithful step.

3. Walk in Peace, Not Pressure

Not every good opportunity is a God opportunity.

I’ve discovered that God’s wisdom is often accompanied by peace—even when the decision is difficult.

Pressure says, “Decide now.”

Wisdom says, “Wait until you have peace.”

Fear rushes.

Faith rests.

God’s timing is never late.

Wisdom Protects Us

Proverbs tells us repeatedly that wisdom protects, guides, and preserves us.

It helps us:

• avoid unnecessary conflict
• steward our finances wisely
• build healthy relationships
• lead with integrity
• respond instead of react
• remain faithful during uncertain seasons

Wisdom doesn’t remove every challenge, but it helps us navigate challenges with confidence because we know God is leading us.

A Prayer for Wisdom

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for being the source of all wisdom. Help me to seek Your voice above every other voice competing for my attention. Quiet my anxious thoughts and teach me to trust Your timing. Give me discernment when making decisions, courage to obey when You lead, and patience to wait when You say not yet.

May every decision I make bring glory to You and reflect the wisdom that comes from above—pure, peace-loving, considerate, full of mercy, and sincere.

Final Thoughts

The older I become, the more I realize that wisdom is one of God’s greatest gifts.

Knowledge may impress people.

Experience may educate us.

But wisdom transforms how we live.

As women of faith, we don’t have to navigate life alone or rely solely on our own understanding. We have access to the wisdom of a loving Father who promises to guide every step.

So before you make your next decision, pause.

Pray.

Listen.

Trust.

God’s wisdom will never lead you where His grace cannot sustain you.
