When Life Feels Unclear: 4 Ways to Find Direction with God

Have you ever felt stuck or unsure about your next step? Maybe you’ve asked questions like:
“Am I doing what I’m called to do?”
“Is this really where God wants me right now?”
“What if I make the wrong decision?”

You’re not alone. So many of the women I work with feel a deep longing to live on purpose—but sometimes the path isn’t crystal clear. The good news? You don’t have to figure it all out on your own. God specializes in giving clarity in the middle of chaos.

If you’re in a season of uncertainty, here are four ways to find direction—and peace—through your faith.

1. Pause Before You Push

Our natural instinct in unclear moments is to keep pushing forward. We think if we just do more, clarity will come. But sometimes, clarity comes when we pause.

Give yourself permission to slow down, breathe, and sit with God. Create space to listen—not just speak. Clarity is often birthed in stillness.

“Be still and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10

2. Pray with Openness, Not Just Outcomes

It’s easy to come to God with a list of what we want Him to do. But what if we prayed with open hands instead of closed ones?

Ask God:

  • “What are You teaching me right now?”
  • “What do You want to show me about myself?”
  • “Is there something I need to release before I move forward?”

When your heart is open, God can speak in unexpected and life-giving ways.

3. Pay Attention to the Patterns

God often speaks through repetition—confirming His direction through scriptures, conversations, opportunities, or even that quiet nudge you can’t shake.

Is there a message you keep hearing? A dream you can’t let go of? A door that keeps opening (or closing)? Write it down. Pray over it. Trust that God is guiding, even in subtle ways.

4. Surround Yourself with Faith-Filled Voices

Clarity often comes through community. You weren’t meant to figure out your calling in isolation. Surround yourself with women who pray with you, encourage you, and remind you of who you are when you forget.

This is why I do what I do—as a clarity coach, speaker, and trainer—I come alongside women who are ready to get unstuck, grow in their faith, and step confidently into what God is calling them to next.

Final Thought

If you’re in a season of fog, uncertainty, or waiting, know that God hasn’t forgotten you. He sees you. He’s preparing you. And He’s faithful to lead you—even when the path is unclear.

Your next step doesn’t have to be big—it just needs to be guided. Trust Him to light the way, one step at a time.
